A year’s worth of celebrations is coming to an end as LDS Business College officially celebrated its 125th
anniversary on Tuesday, November 15, 2011.
Beginning in January, an ambitious
list of events, activities and displays unfolded, including a float in the July
Days of ’47 Parade featuring students riding atop a giant birthday cake that
won the parade’s “Community Award”; a professional display of the College’s
history and programs in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building; street banners hung
on North Temple adjacent to campus; new partnerships built with numerous
businesses through celebration involvement; and a letter of congratulations
from Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert’s office.
Closer to home, the College issued a
commemorative edition of its alumni BC Magazine, created commemorative professional displays, served cake to the
entire student population on the College’s actual anniversary date, and
supported the student body’s “125 Days of Service” which included a blood
drive, making hats and quilts for several agencies, creating cards for
soldiers, a canned food drive, assistance with College events, and a “Choose 2
Give” student fundraising campaign with a 125th perspective
resulting in the highest percentage of student participation on record. Alumni
planted a memorial tree on campus grounds with a plaque to mark the occasion.
